The coffee snob’s guide to Victoria

Know your mocha from your macchiato? Then you’ll love our guide to the best beans in SW1

Ole & Steen

We all know the Danes make a mean pastry, but it turns out they’re just as serious about their coffee. Copenhagen bakery Ole & Steen serves coffee sourced from single estate farms in Brazil, India and Colombia, and their staff are all trained to the highest standards at their  in-house coffee academy (yes, really!). We recommend starting the day with a cappuccino and one of their signature Cinnamon Swirls of course!

Nespresso

If you love nothing more than waking up to the smell of coffee wafting from your own kitchen, then you’d better make sure you have the best possible means of making it. Pop into the shiny new Nespresso Boutique at Cardinal Place to peruse a range of state-of-the-art machines and stock up on the finest coffee pods money can buy. Our pick is the new Lattissima Touch which makes the perfect milky coffee with its clever one-touch system.

Iris & June

This popular independent cafe has one mantra when it comes to coffee: ‘make it awesome’. And with beans sourced at origin and roasted in small batches by London-based Ozone Coffee Roasters, it’s pretty awesome stuff indeed. Our pick? A classic latte. Expertly made and beautifully presented.

Sourced Market

If you like your coffee with a bespoke touch, then head to Sourced Market – a cafe and deli which specialises in the finest artisanal produce. Choose from a rotating selection of beans from independent roasters that the Sourced team will then grind to order. We recommend the house espresso, which is sourced and roasted in Cornwall from Origin Coffee Roasters.

The Roasting

Looking to change up your morning coffee order? This Pimlico institution offers the classics but also specialises in some funky flavours. We recommend trying their ‘pistaccio’ or ‘amaretto’ coffee for that little extra kick. The Roasting also pride themselves on being pioneers of fair and ethical produce and guarantee the perfect cup every time.

Timmy Green

As purveyors of the all-day brunch, it’s only natural that the Australians know a thing or two about making great coffee. Pop into Aussie-inspired cafe Timmy Green for your next caffeine hit – whether it’s a punchy espresso (from a blend created exclusively for Timmy Green by The Roasting Party), a flat white or – for something a little different – try their  uber-trendy turmeric latte.

Coffee Geek and Friends

As their name suggests, the folks at Coffee Geek and Friends are unashamedly nerdy when it comes to coffee. The ‘Geeks’ are also hot on sustainability. So much so that this month the team has introduced an initiative where, for every purchase of a Coffee Geek and Friends branded reusable keep cup, they’ll provide you with a complimentary hot beverage of your choice. What’s more, every time you bring any reusable cup in, they’ll knock 10p off your drink order.
